The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Foundation Inc., the nonprofit corporation established to provide oversight for the BPO’s endowment fund, announced the re-election of John Zak to an additional one-year term as chair, and the election of Aleks Spellman and Holly Hejmowski as new directors for a three-year term. Additionally, Spellman was elected to serve as secretary and Hejmowski was elected as treasurer. Karen Arrison, John Yurtchuk and Michael Wurst will continue to serve on the board.

Daniel Hart and Kevin James were confirmed once again as president and vice president of the foundation.

Zak, partner at Hodgson Russ, has been a member of the board since 2015. By virtue of this position, he also serves on the board of trustees of the BPO. He is the immediate past chair of Shea’s Performing Arts Center and has been active in a number of cultural organizations.

Spellman, a native of Buffalo, is a senior associate at Summer Street Capital Partners Inc. She received her Bachelor of Economics degree at John Carroll University and a master’s degree from Cleveland State University. Hejmowski is a principal at Freed Maxick CPA’s. She is a licensed CPA and graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a Bachelors of Science in accounting.

At the annual meeting, the board also recognized outgoing members Bob Skerker and Michael Munschauer for six years of service.

Endowment assets controlled by the BPO Foundation have grown to over $28 million as the result of fundraising campaigns executed by the BPO. The foundation board works with investment professionals at Wilmington Trust to guide the growth of assets in order to provide important annual financial support for the orchestra’s many concerts and educational programs.
