Another Islander has opened up a family business in her hometown.

At a ribbon-cutting for Island Family Eye Care on Jan. 29, owner Dr. Adrienne Manzo Cassata said it’s been a “dream of mine for a long time. I worked for an ophthalmology practice for about 10 years and decided to branch out on my own, and I’m just so excited to be on Grand Island. It’s really been a warm reception so far. ... I’m just really happy to be here serving this community.”

A lifelong Islander and graduate of Grand Island High School, she was joined by members of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and town government leaders in cutting the ceremonial blue ribbon.

Grand Island Chamber of Commerce President Eric Fiebelkorn said Island Family Eye Care is in a plaza at 1780 Grand Island Blvd. that’s “new from the ground up.”

“This isn’t corporate money that flew in out of somewhere. This is somebody who’s worked her whole life, worked hard, been a good community member, will be a good community steward,” Fiebelkorn said.

“Islanders are constantly clamoring to have stuff on the Island,” Fiebelkorn said. “Well, it’s here. There’s a lot of big box competition in this space. ... If you want the services, support someone who supports our community.”
