The holiday table can be pretty redundant year after year, but for 2019, party hosts and goers can look no further than award-wining Bella Rose Vineyard & Winery in Lewiston for wine pairings and more.

Bella Rose Vineyard & Winery, at 1243 Ridge Road, is a brand-new facility and the owners had the largest ribbon-cutting turnout in Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce history. To make the season even merrier, its 2017 pinot noir recently received a gold award from World Wine Championships.

“I think the excitement of having a winery in Lewiston has spread, and our Welcome Center is now able to send visitors to a winery less than two miles from our office,” said Jennifer Pauly, president of the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce.

The picturesque views of the escarpment from Bella Rose and layout of the winery (designed to accommodate groups and small events) is sure to lure Niagara Wine Trail-goers.

Bella Rose Vineyard & Winery owner Michael Schweitzer said he chose Lewiston as the location for his winery because of the “great community with incredible events and people who support them.”

He is also able to offer a plethora of wine pairings for upcoming celebrations.

“Christmas dinner is tricky,” Schweitzer said; but he has solutions. He compared his wines to those from Northern France and Southern Germany, because of the similar climate and growing conditions; and limestone bedrock of the escarpment.

Recommended Pairings

•Dish: Beef

Wine: Ridge Red Wine (bold, full-bodied, dry, but fruit forward with an aromatic nose and abundant berry-cherry, blackberry, and blueberry flavors. Traditional cedar and plum notes with hints of chocolate)

•Dish: Pork or poultry

Wine: Semi Riesling 2017 (aromas of lemon and lime, apple and wet stone with flavors of peach)

UnOaked Chardonnay 2017 (stainless steel aged; flavors of crisp green apple, fruit forward, and a bright finish)

“New Years is easy. Bubbles is a wine I made at my wife’s request. She wanted a bubbly Prosecco-like drink that was a little more wine and semi-sweet,” Schweitzer said.

Bubbles is a semi-dry sparkling wine with overtones of apricot, peach and taste of luscious grapes.
