Photo series to enhance artists’ careers

The Carnegie Art Center will host a two-day photography session for artists, musicians and people working in the arts to get their professional headshots taken by local photographer Raul J. Marrero.

The headshot an artist submits with their portfolio or their website is often times the first face a gallery or buyer puts to their work. It can be their avatar, their stand-in, and it speaks for them when they are not physically present.

The Carnegie will host photo shoots on from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at 240 Goundry St., North Tonawanda. Each participant must select a 20-minute slot time on the Carnegie's website to secure a spot. Every participant will leave the photo session with a high-resolution digital image of their brand-new headshot.

Members of the Carnegie will be able to choose two digital images. Non-members can choose one digital image. The Carnegie will check membership status when one arrives for a photo shoot. Each session will cost $30.

The Carnegie will provide all of the photography equipment needed, including a gray backdrop, someone to take the photos, and someone to edit the photos. Participants may bring props with them. All participants will be able to choose between a black and white image or color.

Participants of the headshot sessions will also receive an exclusive 10% discount to get a digital image of their artwork at Pencil in the River Studio Inc. Located directly down the street from the Carnegie, Pencil in the River has been creating high-quality images for artists for over 20 years. After taking 10% off the purchase of printing, Pencil in the River will donate 10% of the proceeds after the discount directly to the Carnegie Art Center. More information about this discount will be provided for participants of the headshot series only.

Proceeds from the photo series will support the photographer and the Carnegie Art Center.

All participants must sign up for a time slot on the Carnegie’s website at www.carnegieartcenter.org. For more information, email [email protected] or call 716-694-4400.
