After five albums, 10.8 million album sales, 5.9 billion streams and 1.75 million ticket sales, The Script are going back to the script. The Irish alt-pop trio is digging back into the traits that first fired members to prominence with the early hit singles “We Cry”, “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” and “Breakeven.

That’s exactly what they’ve achieved with their brand-new single, “The Last Time,” out now via Columbia. It’s a fresh take on the beating heart of what makes them so special to their fervent fanbase: a revealing and immediately uplifting anthem rich with their famously irresistible sense of melody.

Continuing the band's long-standing collaboration with video director Charles Mehling, the video was filmed in London and features Polish model Anna Jogodzinska.

“This song is about the intense feelings you experience when you realize you may be seeing the one you love ... for the last time,” vocalist Danny O’Donoghue said.

“The Last Time” is the first taste of the band’s upcoming sixth album, which will be released later this year. The Script – O’Donoghue (vocals, piano, guitar), Mark Sheehan (vocals, guitar) and Glen Power (drums) – are currently putting the finishing touches to it at their creative hub in London’s Metropolis Studios with the help of mixing master and old friend Mark “Spike” Stent (Coldplay, Beyoncé, Frank Ocean), Manny Marroquin (Post Malone, Lizzo, Dua Lipa) and Dan Frampton.

After 2017’s “Freedom Child” became the fourth of their five albums to top the U.K. charts, The Script embarked upon a typically intense world tour, completing 56 arena shows across 26 countries. They played every show as if it was their last, and vowed to make every night unique – which included famously buying a 9,000-drink round in Brussels to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

That gave the band a new lease of life. After mentoring and collaborating with other artists, notably rising Irish band Wild Youth, the trio realized it understood the band and its DNA better than anyone. Opting to produce the new material themselves, members started work late in 2018 and the songs quickly emerged.

The result promises to be everything that makes The Script special. It’s sure to reignite the special connection the band shares with its audience, with its years together amplifying its poignancy and emotional resonance.

O’Donoghue and Sheehan first came to industry attention as a young producer/writer duo who worked with the likes of Teddy Riley, Boyz II Men and Britney Spears. They later returned home to Dublin where they recruited drummer Glen Power to form The Script. A regular fixture at the top of the Irish charts, they’ve also landed four U.K. No. 1 albums and a chart-topping single in the shape of “Hall of Fame,” which featured will.i.am. They also featured on David Guetta’s global hit album “Listen” and now have over 12 million monthly Spotify listeners.

Twice nominated for International Group at the BRITs, The Script have also hit the Top 10 in countries including the U.S., Germany, Australia and Canada. A major highlight of their career came when they sold 80,000 tickets for a homecoming show at Croke Park in a matter of minutes. They became just the third Irish group to headline the stadium, after U2 and Westlife.
