Annual event spotlights village restaurants

Imagine being able to eat at all of Lewiston’s restaurants in one sitting. It would be like culinary Christmas!

But there’s no way. I mean, it would be like asking jolly St. Nick to drop down every chimney in every house around the world. How could that be done in one day?

Well, if Santa can do it, then so can the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce.

The tourism marketing and local business advocacy agency is uniting Lewiston’s finest restaurants into one place, at one time, allowing patrons the opportunity to try a plethora of the village’s eateries in one outing.

A Taste of Lewiston will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 25, on Center Street in historic Lewiston. Event vendors will offer sample-sized food and beverages ranging in price from $1 to $8.

For this festival, the Chamber of Commerce is working in partnership with the Lewiston Restaurant Group. The focus of the Taste of Lewiston is to spotlight the village’s dining establishments, as well as local businesses and popular guest food trucks (we’re looking at you, caramel corn).

“I think it’s just exciting that this is a true Lewiston community event,” Apple Granny co-owner Chuck Barber said. “Not only will all of Lewiston’s eateries be out here, but the Lewiston businesses are helping to take advantage of that day. It’s truly a great partnership with the chamber. They’ve done a great job in really helping to support and advertise this event and businesses in the Lewiston community.”

“It’s just a great showcase to see not only the beautiful sights and views of Lewiston, but also for everyone to see how great the food is,” said Village Bake Shoppe co-owner Michael Fiore. “In recent years, we’ve added so many incredible restaurants to the existing, amazing ones that have been here for so long. And we’re just truly excited to show Western New York how awesome our food is down here.”

Though planning started just a few short months ago, Chamber of Commerce President Jennifer Pauly has worked closely with the Lewiston dining establishments to ensure the festival is a success.

“We have followed the lead of the restaurants in making sure this event happened this year. With cooperation from the restaurants, the Arts Council, the village and Lewiston businesses, we were able to make it happen,” she said. “We hope it will be an enjoyable day for all.”

The Lewiston Council on the Arts produced A Taste of Lewiston the past two years. It is lending the name and logo for use in 2019.

Lewiston establishments slated to participate include: Apple Granny Restaurant, Brickyard Brewing Company, Brickyard Pub & B.B.Q., Casa Antica, Cask + Cow, Center Cut: The Village Steakhouse, Como Deli on Center, DiCamillo Bakery, Fresh Fit Foods, Gallo Coal Fire Kitchen, The Griffon House, Hibbard’s Original Frozen Custard, The Natural Link, Spice Harbor, The Spicey Pickle, The Village Bake Shoppe and Tin Pan Alley.

Additional vendors will line Center Street – which will be closed to vehicular traffic from Sixth to Fourth streets. Businesses are reminded to schedule deliveries accordingly.

Entertainment will be provided by Lewiston Dance at 11 a.m. Lewiston’s online music station, WVNR “Viva Nostalgia Radio,” will stream hit songs throughout the festival.
