Buffalo Sabres sign Adam Wilcox to one-year contract

The Buffalo Sabres on Sunday announced the team signed goaltender Adam Wilcox to a one-year, two-way contract with an average annual value of $650,000. Wilcox will be placed on waivers with the intent to be loaned to the Rochester Americans (AHL).

Wilcox (age 26, 6’0,” 189 pounds) has posted a 9-7-3 record in 21 games for the Americans this season. Through two seasons with Rochester, the South St. Paul, Minnesota, native has appeared in 50 games, logging a 21-14-10 record. He made his NHL debut in the 2017-18 season with Buffalo, stopping all 14 shots he faced in a relief appearance on April 7 against the Florida Panthers.

A sixth-round pick (178th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft, Wilcox has compiled a 55-41-21 record with a .900 save percentage and a 2.87 goals-against average in 126 career AHL games.

Before beginning his professional career, Wilcox played three seasons for the University of Minnesota, where he was named the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2013-14 and backstopped the Gophers to two Big Ten regular-season titles and one Big Ten Tournament title.

On Saturday, the Buffalo Sabres announced the team assigned forward C.J. Smith to the Rochester Americans.

On Friday, the Sabres announced the team recalled forwards Danny O’Regan and Scott Wilson from the Rochester Americans.

O’Regan (age 25, 5’10,” 180 pounds) joins the Sabres for his first recall of the season after recording 34 points (18 goals, 16 assists) in 53 games with Rochester this season. In three professional seasons, O’Regan has totaled 132 points (54/78) in 165 AHL games.

A native of Berlin, Germany, O’Regan appeared in two games for the Sabres in 2017-18 after being acquired from the San Jose Sharks in February of 2018. He has totaled five points (1/4) in 24 career NHL games since being selected by the Sharks in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.

After being acquired by the Sabres in December of 2017, Wilson (age 26, 5’11,” 186 pounds) recorded 14 points (6/8) in 49 games for the Sabres in 2017-18. He has posted seven points (3/4) in 17 games with Rochester this season following an ankle injury that sidelined him for the first three months of the season.

A seventh-round pick (208th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft, Wilson has appeared in 172 NHL games with the Sabres, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins, registering 46 points (19/27).

In corresponding moves, forward Kyle Okposo was placed on injured reserve and defenseman Lawrence Pilut has been assigned to Rochester.
