Five-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky and four-time Olympic medalist Simone Manuel are expected to headline the 2018 USA Swimming Winter Nationals this week in Greensboro, North Carolina. NBC Sports' live coverage of the event begins Thursday at 5 p.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA and concludes Sunday, Dec. 2 ( 10 p.m.), on NBCSN.
NBC also presents an encore of the finals on Sunday (3 p.m.).
Highlighting NBC Sports' coverage are Ledecky, who holds world records in the 400-meter, 800-meter and 1500-meter freestyles, and Manuel, who won two gold and two silver medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics and became the first African-American woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal in swimming. Five-time Olympic gold medalists Nathan Adrian and Dana Vollmer, and 2016 Olympic silver medalist and two-time world champion Chase Kalisz are expected to compete, as well. Vollmer returns to competition for the first time since January.
All coverage on NBCSN will stream on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. All coverage on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA will stream on OlympicChannel.com and the Olympic Channel app, in addition to NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. All preliminary races will stream live on usaswimming.org.
The USA Swimming Winter Nationals will be held in a long-course (Olympic-size) pool, a change from the shorter, 25-yard pools typically used for the event. The format change allows swimmers to post qualifying times for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials, as this week's competition marks the opening of the trials qualification period.
Ted Robinson calls the action, joined by analyst Rowdy Gaines and reporter Ahmed Fareed.
