The National Geographic Live series is back, with three more perspectives on the world.
The series takes place at Kleinhans Music Hall and offers audiences the chance to hear directly from the explorers, photographers and other experts who develop the content that appears in the magazine, on the television channel, and on every other platform where National Geographic has a presence.
The season kicks off with a limited-availability beer tasting event at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. Garrett Oliver is an international beer expert and the longtime brewmaster at the Brooklyn Brewery. This James Beard Award winner will share with the audience his favorite beers from around the world and the story of their creation. The tasting event will take place in Kleinhans' Mary Seaton Room.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, explorer and photographer Ronan Donovan examines the secret lives of social mammals such as chimpanzees, wolves, gorillas and bears. In this thought-provoking presentation, he will explore how their social lives relate to our own, and what one can learn from them.
On Tuesday, April 30, husband-and-wife photographers and explorers David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes present "Coral Kingdoms and Empires of Ice." Doubilet and Hayes are experts at underwater photography and will share a pristine tropical wilderness of water, crowded with layers of life. The audience will journey through and beneath the Antarctic ice with them as they capture images of leopard seals, penguins and shipwrecks; and view their newest work on icebergs.
"National Geographic has ignited a passion for both the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the world among generations of people," said Bob Skerker, chair of the Kleinhans Music Hall board of directors. "We're pleased to offer Western New York the opportunity to hear directly from the people who travel to the ends of the earth to get these stories."
A subscription to the full series is $140 for general admission and $210 for the VIP option with reserved seating and a meet-and-greet opportunity with the speaker. The series subscription includes the beer tasting. Individual tickets for the March 5 and April 30 events are $75 for VIP, $35 for general admission, and $15 for students. Individual tickets for the Feb. 8 beer tasting are $95. Tickets and subscriptions can be purchased by calling the Kleinhans box office at 716-885-5000 or by visiting kleinhansbuffalo.org.
