On Thursday, Sept. 13, law enforcement officers and local officials will take their oath to protect and "serve" to a new level, trading in their handcuffs and badges for menus and serving trays at the "Law and Orders" event taking place at various Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations throughout the region. The fundraiser will take place during dinner hours (5-8 p.m.) in the hopes of raising awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities, as well as funding to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics New York.
Local law enforcement officers from various agencies including U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Air Force Reserve, U.S. Court Officers, New York State Police, Niagara Falls Police Department, West Seneca Police Department, Lakeview Correctional Facility, Jamestown Police Department and Olean Police Department will join the staff at Applebee's to greet and seat customers, bus tables and serve guests. They will then place envelopes on the customers' tables for them to fill with a special tip, which will go directly to the organization.
"I think it's outstanding that the local law enforcement come in on their own time to do this," said Stacey Hengsterman, president and CEO of Special Olympics New York. "We couldn't do what we do without this amazing group of community leaders."
The restaurants will be bustling and there will be a queue of people waiting for a table. Participating Applebee's locations include:
