NFC Championship Game rematch
NBC Sports continues its presentation of "Sunday Night Football" this weekend with a rematch of last year's NFC Championship Game, when Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers (1-0) visit Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons (1-0), as they open their new home, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Coverage begins with "Football Night in America" at 7 p.m. ET on NBC.
The Falcons defeated the Packers twice last season, including their victory in the NFC Championship Game. Atlanta edged Green Bay by a score of 33-32 in Week 8, as Matt Ryan connected with wideout Mohammad Sanu for the game-winning touchdown with 31 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Falcons dominated the Packers in the NFC Championship Game in January, building a 31-0 lead en route to a 44-21 victory, as Ryan totaled 392 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Both the Falcons and Packers are coming off Week 1 victories. Atlanta defeated the Chicago Bears by a score of 23-17 at Soldier Field on Sunday, while the Packers earned a 17-9 victory at home against the Seattle Seahawks. This Sunday night's game also features two of the past three NFL MVPs in Ryan (2016) and Rodgers (2014).
Calling Packers-Falcons are seven-time Emmy Award-winner Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his record 32nd season as the voice of the NFL's premier primetime package; 16-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth; and two-time Emmy Award-winning sideline reporter Michele Tafoya.
"Football Night in America," the most-watched studio show in sports, is hosted by Mike Tirico, who will report on-site from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, and Dan Patrick, who will host from Studio 1 at NBC Sports Group's International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Connecticut. Patrick is joined by Super Bowl-winning head coach Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison, and Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com and "PFT Live" on NBCSN and NBC Sports Radio. Kathryn Tappen will report from Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver on the Cowboys-Broncos game.
