The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is accepting applications for its annual scholarship program to support Western New York-area high school seniors in pursuit of higher education in the foodservice and hospitality industries. The program awards up to five scholarship winners with $1,000 each to be applied toward their college education.

"The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is proud to support Western New York's culinary and hospitality students," said Ralph Basile, event chair. "Since the scholarship program began in 1997, more than $75,000 in scholarships have been awarded. We've even seen scholarship winners return to the Taste as foodservice professionals supporting local restaurants."

To be eligible for a scholarship, students must be residents of Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Wyoming, Genesee, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus or Allegany counties. They must also be enrolled, or intend to enroll, in a foodservice or hospitality curriculum at an accredited two- or four-year school for the fall 2017 semester. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of academic achievement, experience, recommendations, community involvement, goal objectives and overall interest in the industry.

For additional information and to download an application, visit www.tasteofbuffalo.com. The completed application, a current transcript and report card, and two letters of recommendation must be received by Tuesday, April 4.

The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is the nation's largest two-day food festival, attracting more than 450,000 visitors each year. The 34th annual Taste will take place on July 8 and 9, along Delaware Avenue and Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo.

The Taste is a not-for-profit organization with more than 1,000 volunteers helping to put on the annual event. More than $360,000 has been raised at the festival for local charities in addition to five $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to local high school seniors pursuing a culinary or hospitality-related degree.
