Explore 'The Science of Sports' at Buffalo Museum of Science

The Buffalo Museum of Science has partnered with the Buffalo Bills, Sabres, Bisons, Bandits and New Era Cap to create an interactive exhibit that investigates the science behind Buffalo's favorite sports.

"The Science of Sports" opens Sept. 29 and runs through Jan. 6, 2013.

Aside from being competitive, sports are a complex equation of physics, math and biology. From the physical impact of collisions to the technology behind how hockey ice is created, science plays an integral role in every highlight reel and play-by-play.

William F. Farnham Sr., of the Tuscarora Nation, passed away on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. He was a member of the Beaver Clan, born in Buffalo on Aug. 16, 1933, the son of the late Frank and Carrie (Green) Farnham.

The Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, a not-for-profit that manages all donations made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, recently awarded scientific research grants totaling nearly $800,000 to RPCI scientists and clinicians. The grants range from $10,000 to $100,000 and provide seed funding for 20 projects showing the greatest potential to save lives.

Lockport: Grigg-Lewis Foundation offering $4 million for ice arena

On Tuesday, the Grigg-Lewis Foundation proudly announced a pledge of $4 million to the Lockport Ice Arena and Sports Center, or LIASC, to go toward the construction of a two-pad ice arena in downtown Lockport.

"It was through the efforts of the Grigg-Lewis Foundation and State Senator Maziarz that we were able to take an idea, construction of a state-of-the-art hockey arena in Lockport, and get to this point," said LIASC President John Ottaviano. "Their partnership allowed our board to bring in experts to craft a business plan, secure the ideal downtown site, and create a real and implementable design for our vision. For the Grigg-Lewis Foundation to go a step further and commit this level of funding is amazing. I greatly appreciate the trust they have put in us."

During the broadcast postgame news conference, Bills Coach Chan Gailey said Spiller will "for sure miss this week" (against the New England Patriots at Ralph Wilson Stadium) as his injury continues to be evaluated.
