One of Western New York's time-honored traditions is the running of the YMCA Turkey Trot. Held each Thanksgiving morning on Delaware Avenue, this event draws more than 14,000 serious runners and walkers alike, many of which are adorned in colorful and creative costumes making the event quite a spectacle.

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has announced more than $12.4 million in grant funding for land banks in Erie County/Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Chautauqua County, Newburgh and Suffolk County. The grants represent the first round of competitive funding awards under the attorney general's land bank community revitalization initiative. This two-year, $20 million program provides funds from last year's national mortgage settlement with the nation's largest banks to help communities rebuild and restore neighborhoods hit hard by the housing crisis.

As part of the YMCA's commitment to the community, the Y has teamed up once again with the Food Bank of Western New York and WGRZ-TV Channel 2 to help give back to those in need right here in Western New York. All YMCA Buffalo Niagara Branches and YMCA Buffalo Niagara's association office are currently taking donations of non-perishable items for the Food Bank.

New York State Sen. Mark Grisanti, who serves as chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, has announced that, after working with town officials in Orchard Park, he has been able to secure $200,000 to help replace Green Lake Dam.
Green Lake Dam was recently reclassified by the state Department of Environmental Conservation from an intermediate hazard to a high hazard, which drew concerns from many residents and community stakeholders in Orchard Park.
