Gov. Kathy Hochul announced funding is available from the new $100 million Building Recreational Infrastructure for Communities, Kids and Seniors (NY BRICKS) capital grant program. Hochul secured this funding in the FY 2026 enacted budget to support municipalities and nonprofit organizations in building or renovating community centers that promote physical health, mental well-being, and community connections for youth and older adults.

The Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America announced it raised over $1.4 million after completing its 29th anniversary ride, which took place May 3-9. Funds raised directly benefit Victory Junction - a camp in Randleman, North Carolina, servicing children with chronic medical illnesses. Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 19-year-old male from Newburg was sentenced this morning before Amherst Town Court Justice Jeff Marion to a one-year conditional discharge. The defendant, who was 18 years old at the time of the crime, was adjudicated as a youthful offender.

The county clerks in Orleans and Niagara counties today warned residents that a text scam involving fake Department of Motor Vehicle notifications has been circulating extensively to residents of both counties in recent weeks. Orleans County Clerk Nadine Hanlon and Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski said that, while the scam is nothing new, their offices have been inundated with calls from local residents expressing concern.
