Gov. Kathy Hochul today directed that flags on all state government buildings be flown at half-staff in honor of retired New York State Police Zone Sgt. Steven W. Greene, who passed away Oct. 24 from an illness stemming from his assignment in and around the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 terrorist attack. Flags will be flown at half-staff on Friday, Oct. 31, from sunrise to sunset.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced Social Security benefits, including Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI), and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments for 75 million Americans will increase 2.8% in 2026.
