New York Attorney General Letitia James' Office of Special Investigation (OSI) today announced the indictment and arraignment of New York State Trooper Anthony Nigro IV on charges of manslaughter in the first and second degrees. The indictment alleges Trooper Nigro shot and killed James Huber in Buffalo on Feb. 12, 2022.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos and State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald issued an air quality health advisory for the Adirondacks, Eastern Lake Ontario, Central New York and Western New York regions for Monday, June 5, 2023. The pollutant of concern is fine particulate matter. The advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. through 11:59 p.m.

On Saturday, June 3, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center received a 911 call reporting a single motor-vehicle accident into a barn in the area of Braley Road and Dickersonville Road in the Town of Porter. Before deputies arrived on scene, the single male occupant was able to extricate himself from the vehicle and walk out of the semi-demolished barn.

The region's affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, formerly known as NAMI Buffalo & Erie County, has been approved to expand its geographic service area to include the counties of Niagara, Orleans, Wyoming, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua. To better reflect this expansion, NAMI-NYS and the national organization granted approval for the name change to NAMI Buffalo & Western New York.

Jody and Tom Fogarty, who were chosen as Relay For Life's honorary survivors in 2023, both are cancer free after recent cancer diagnoses: Tom with bladder cancer in 2018 and Jody with breast cancer in 2021.
