Top government officials from Niagara County, Lockport and surrounding communities were on hand Wednesday at Lockport City Hall to receive a briefing on Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's 2012-13 executive budget from one of the state's top economic development officials.

The Niagara Area Development Corporation board of directors today received an application for assistance for consideration from Niagara University to refinance $24.5 million of existing tax exempt bonds and for $23.5 million of new tax exempt bonds to build a state-of-the-art science building on the Lewiston campus.
"This is an exciting project for Niagara County and Niagara University, and we will do all we can to assist in ensuring the new science building is constructed," said Henry M. Sloma, chairman of the Niagara Area Development Corporation. "Niagara University is one of the treasures of Niagara County, and we are thrilled to work with the school (to) build a new science building that will help train our future workforce in the latest sciences - a much needed trade for this region."

The Buffalo City Mission announced today its fourth annual www.hungerhunt.com fundraiser, an online scavenger hunt that educates people about the plight of homelessness locally. This year's online scavenger hunt is part of the Mission's "Stamp Out Hunger Campaign" that raises money to help provide meals to the poor and educates the community about poverty and homelessness within Western New York.

Up to five scholarship winners will each receive $1,000 to be applied toward their college education.

The first-ever live stream of a Super Bowl in the U.S. attracted 2,105,441 users, making it the most-watched, single-game sports event ever online, according to data provided by Omniture and mDialog, surpassing any previously reported record. The live game stream was available on both NBCSports.com as well as NFL.com. NBC Sports' live stream was also available on "NFL Mobile only from Verizon." On Monday, NBC Sports announced its broadcast coverage of Super Bowl XLVI was the most-watched television program in U.S. history (111.3 million viewers) and the highest-rated Super Bowl in 26 years (47.0 household rating).

The Greater Lockport Family YMCA and YMCA Camp Kenan are once again gearing up for the annual "Race Series" benefitting the YMCA Camp Kenan Camper Scholarship Fund. Each year, YMCA Camp Kenan assists in providing scholarships to campers from across Western New York. The goal is to make weeklong residence camp experiences a reality for families in need.

This year's clothing drive marks the 10th consecutive year dressbarn and Dress for Success have partnered to help women in need receive professional business attire.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, today sent a letter to Western New York's congressional delegation urging them to support the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (H.R. 1179/S. 1467). Ceretto remarked that the measure would ensure that those who participate in the health care system retain the right to provide, purchase or enroll in health coverage that is consistent with their religious beliefs and moral convictions.
