'The Voice': One of these singers will win season 5

Predicting who will win a reality singing competition is a little like trying to figure out Google analytics. We think we know what works and what doesn't, but at the end of the day, TV audiences are as hard to predict as search engine rankings.

Still, just as we know page traffic, links and social media factor into what we see on Google, we know a few things about what singers need to do to garner votes.

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced an Election Day hotline to help ensure that all eligible voters are able to cast an effective ballot in the Nov. 5 general election. The A.G. urges voters to call the office's hotline at 800-771-7755 or email [email protected] at any time between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Election Day to report issues or problems at the polls.

'The Lighting of the Manor' in Appleton

On Sunday, Dec. 1, the Winery at Marjim Manor will celebrate the holidays with "The Lighting of the Manor." Six Christmas trees, various displays and Hanukah menorah will be ablaze. The festivities begin at 1 p.m. at 7171 E. Lake Rd, Appleton.

Admittance will be a new hat, scarf or pair of mittens for the designated tree.

As part of the festivities, Manor wine presenter Kim Seddon will play Christmas carols, and Santa will be available for pictures. Nando's Pizzelles will return with a myriad of flavors. Mulled wine and mulled apple cider and other holiday treats will also be available. There will be hourly wine specials and giftwrapping.

Higgins lauds FCC proposal to scuttle blackout regulations

Congressman Brian Higgins cheered a proposal announced by the Federal Communications Commission chair to eliminate federal regulations that support sports blackouts.

"Blackout rules are unfair, outdated and alienate dedicated fans," Higgins said. "I support the FCC chairwoman's proposal to eliminate federal policies that defend and allow blackouts. We will be asking the full FCC board to follow through with this recommendation, and the leagues and teams to embrace the change as a way to reach a larger audience and do the right thing for their fans."
