The Niagara County Department of Health nursing division, in collaboration with the Niagara County Office for the Aging, is offering a free diabetes prevention program. This is a 16-week program for people who are at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes. Classes are scheduled in 16 consecutive weekly sessions, then bimonthly for three months and once a month for five months.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that Shaquan Gibson, age 49, of Niagara Falls, was sentenced to a combined 65 years to life, the maximum possible sentence, for his conviction of the murder of 24-year-old Cyjear Betton in May of 2022, in Niagara Falls, and related crimes.

The 1099-G provides the total amount of money a customer received in benefits during the year, as well as any adjustments or tax withholding made to those benefits.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $25 million in capital grants is available to help volunteer fire departments across the state upgrade their facilities and equipment. In total, $25 million was secured in the fiscal year 2023-24 state budget for this initiative, along with $10 million to offset the costs of training courses volunteer firefighters are required to complete.

Seniors can purchase a reduced-price voucher for a full lunch, and OFA funds will cover the difference with the restaurant.

Lancaster is home to "Stony Brook Legendary Lights," one of the most imaginative, must-see holiday lights celebrations in the country. Over the span of eight streets, more than 300 homes are creatively adorned with lights, giant inflatables, Christmas characters, messages of peace and moving images (figuratively and literally).
