The Lockport Ward of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a "Messiah Sing-in," a new Christmas event for the local area. The event comprises a select group of choruses and a couple of solos. It offers a way for singers and audience members to remember past personal performances or events, as well as a chance to raise their voices and "make a joyful noise to the Lord."

NFPD investigating shooting

Just after 12:30 on the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 10, Niagara Falls Police responded to a house in the 2700 block of Falls Street for a report of a person shot. Officers located a 21-year-old female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was treated on the scene by the Niagara Falls Fire Department and AMR, and was transported to ECMC where she is listed in serious condition.

Higgins: $375,000 for Westminster Economic Development Initiative

Congressman Brian Higgins recently announced WEDI received two federal grants totaling $375,000. A grant for $250,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, Office of Refugee Resettlement will continue support for refugee-owned microenterprises. Another $125,000 grant is allocated through the U.S. Department of Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions (CFDI) fund.

It's fall, and influenza (flu) season is here again. The flu is a respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. The virus spreads mainly from person to person through droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. The virus also may spread when people touch something with flu virus on it and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth. Flu can cause severe illness, hospitalization and death. Anyone can get the flu, and serious problems can occur at any age.
