Lockport-Niagara Hospice will hold its annual Mighty Niagara Half Marathon and Hospice Dash 5K on Oct. 5. The half-marathon starts at Artpark State Park in Lewiston, while the 5K starts at Porter-on-the-Lake Park. Both races finish at Porter-on-the-Lake Park.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 36-year-old Ashley M. Holmes of Kenmore was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio. She received the maximum sentence of 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 49-year-old Charrinda Gray of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday morning before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek to one count of manslaughter in the second degree (class "C" felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.

The Niagara County Department of Health confirmed a rabid bat on Wilson-Burt Road, Town of Wilson, on Aug. 8. The bat was found outdoors on Aug. 4. No pets were implicated. The Niagara County nursing division will assess any possible human exposure and recommend any post-exposure rabies treatment as appropriate.
