New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Acting Commissioner Amanda Lefton announced the annual statewide ban prohibiting residential brush burning begins March 16 and runs through May 14. Since 2009, DEC has enforced the annual brush burning ban to prevent wildfires and protect communities and first responders during heightened conditions for wildfires.

In celebration of the 2025 bicentennial of the opening of the Erie Canal, the Niagara History Center has mounted "Images of the Erie Canal," a free public exhibition of artworks featuring the Erie Canal and Lockport locks. Comprising more than a dozen paintings from the collections of the History Center and Charles Rand Penney, the artworks highlight local artists from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced an 18-year-old male from Buffalo was sentenced yesterday afternoon before Buffalo City Court Judge Tiffany R. Perry to a one-year conditional discharge. As conditions of his sentence, the defendant must complete 60 hours of community service and continue with counseling.

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced a jury found Nigel L. Flint, 29, of Amherst, guilty of one count of murder in the second degree (class "A-I" felony) and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree (class "C" violent felony). Jurors rendered their decision yesterday afternoon after approximately six hours of deliberation following a five-day trial, convicting the defendant of all counts in the indictment.
