Village of Lewiston set to break ground on inclusive playground May 3

The Village of Lewiston plans to break ground this spring on a $750,000 inclusive playground at Marilyn Toohey Park. Mayor Anne Welch said a groundbreaking ceremony will take place as part of the 25th annual "Spring Fling" on Sunday, May 3.
On World Cancer Day, Higgins calls for robust national investment in cancer research

House of Representatives Cancer Caucus Co-Chair Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, is advocating for a significant increase in the nation's investment in medical research and hopes initiatives to advance better treatments are included in the State of the Union address taking place today (also World Cancer Day). Higgins said he also hopes to see additional funding for research included in the president's 2021 budget scheduled for release next week.

Lewiston No. 1, first-responders fight back multi-dwelling structure fire

At 10:33 p.m. Saturday, Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 was dispatched to the Woods at Blairville apartment complex in the 800 block of Oriole Lane for a reported structure fire. Crews were faced with heavy fire in two apartments upon arrival and immediately deployed to begin knocking back the flames as additional crews entered to search for anyone still inside.
