County executives from across this state elected Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro to serve as president for the New York State County Executives Association. NYSCEA, an affiliate of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC), represents the 19 counties that have county executives as their chief elected official. These counties, including the City of New York, represent 16.7 million New Yorkers.

Ontario County Chairman Jack Marren was elected to serve a full term as president of the New York State Association of Counties. Since January, Marren has been fulfilling the unexpired presidential term of the Hon. Scott Samuelson and will now embark on his own full term as president. The election was held at the county leaders meeting that concluded NYSAC's first ever virtual fall seminar.

The New York State Department of State announced the start of construction for a $1.1 million redevelopment project in the City of Batavia. This project, awarded through Batavia's DRI Building Improvement Fund, will rehabilitate a three-story, 7,500 square-foot building built in 1865. Batavia's downtown area is a mixed-use, affordable neighborhood with access to jobs, anchor businesses, and city and county services.

As devastated industries wait for Congress to pass another round of COVID-19 recovery legislation, a new survey of American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) members shows that the hotel industry remains on the brink of collapse because of the pandemic. Results show 68% of hotels have less than half of their typical, precrisis staff working full time, and without further governmental assistance, 74% of respondents said they would be forced to lay off additional employees.

Local government sales tax revenue declined by 7.8% in August compared to the same period last year, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. August's sales tax collections totaled $1.3 billion for counties and cities, or $111 million less than in August 2019.

The plastic bag ban, which went into effect on March 1, was not enforced per an agreement between the parties in a lawsuit brought by Poly-Pak Industries Inc., et al, in New York State Supreme Court.
