Niagara University announces Timothy M. Downs, Ph.D. has been appointed vice president of academic affairs at the university following a nationwide search. Downs possesses more than 25 years of experience in higher education and currently serves as the dean of the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences at Gannon University, a Catholic university located in Erie, Pa. He will assume his new position at Niagara on June 13.

Old Fort Niagara held its popular "Winter Camp for Kids" on the fort grounds, Feb. 22-24. The sold-out camp offered area youngsters a chance to experience life 250 years ago and learn some of the skills needed to survive without modern conveniences.

Residents heard more Monday evening on the growing range of possibilities eyed for Joseph Davis State Park. The discussions followed an agreement finalized hours earlier that day by the Town of Lewiston and New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation on a 10-year lease.

Artpark's "Theater Camp" returns (Aug. 15-19; $250) to offer young theater buffs an exclusive experience with professional cast members from Artpark's upcoming production of the original high school musical, "Fame." Camp Director Candice Kogut guides "Theater Camp" attendees through the principles of acting, singing, dancing, storytelling and more. As an added bonus, all "Theater Camp" enrollees will be treated to the Aug. 18 matinee presentation of Artpark's production of "Fame - The Musical." Invisible Children, a non-profit activist group that endeavors to raise awareness and funds for children forced into slavery as child soldiers, will screen its newest documentary, "Tony," at Niagara University's Castellani Art Museum on March 11. Sponsored by NU's Office of Campus Ministry, the free, public event begins at 1 p.m. and includes a viewing of the film, as well as an appearance by four speakers affiliated with Invisible Children, one of whom is a native Ugandan.
