Fort Niagara celebrates season with 'The Haunted Fortress'

Old Fort Niagara's centuries-old buildings offer more than a few ghost stories, from the headless ghost that reputedly haunts the 1726 French Castle to unexplained shadows, slamming doors, and eerie orbs. Area residents will have an opportunity to experience the fort's mysterious past during "The Haunted Fortress," set for Saturday nights, Oct. 22 and 29.

City of Lockport refuse and recycling cart delivery and collection begins today

The City of Lockport's new refuse and recycling program begins Monday, Oct. 10. Currently, the cart delivery crews have completed the Monday and Tuesday collection routes, and will work through the weekend on the Wednesday and Thursday collection routes.

Muzzleloader course offered

The Firearms Permit Review Board of Wheatfield will offer its annual muzzleloader course from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Wheatfield Community Center, next to Town Hall.

Instructor will be Don MacSwan. A certificate will be issued to those completing the course as a requirement for their muzzleloader discharge permit. There is no course fee. The class is open to anyone age 14 and older. Those ages 14 to 17 should be accompanied by an adult.
