Ceretto hails victory in preserving religious rights

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, today praised local and national religious institutions and individuals for standing up in opposition to President Obama's plan to force religious institutions to abide by policies that would run in direct opposition to their beliefs. Many religious leaders opposed the president's plan, because it would have forced their organizations to uphold measures they did not support. Sources state that the president has backed off of that stance and will be respectful of religious beliefs.

YMCA receives Oishei Foundation grant

YMCA Buffalo Niagara has announced it will receive $300,000 from The John R. Oishei Foundation. This funding will help fund capital improvements at three of YMCA Buffalo Niagara's urban branches, which include the Niagara Falls Family YMCA, as well as Erie County's Delaware and Ellicott-Masten YMCAs.

NU applies for tax-exempt bonds for new science building

The Niagara Area Development Corporation board of directors today received an application for assistance for consideration from Niagara University to refinance $24.5 million of existing tax exempt bonds and for $23.5 million of new tax exempt bonds to build a state-of-the-art science building on the Lewiston campus.

"This is an exciting project for Niagara County and Niagara University, and we will do all we can to assist in ensuring the new science building is constructed," said Henry M. Sloma, chairman of the Niagara Area Development Corporation. "Niagara University is one of the treasures of Niagara County, and we are thrilled to work with the school (to) build a new science building that will help train our future workforce in the latest sciences - a much needed trade for this region."

The Buffalo City Mission announced today its fourth annual www.hungerhunt.com fundraiser, an online scavenger hunt that educates people about the plight of homelessness locally. This year's online scavenger hunt is part of the Mission's "Stamp Out Hunger Campaign" that raises money to help provide meals to the poor and educates the community about poverty and homelessness within Western New York.

With thousands of women unable to secure employment because they lack the resources to take the initial, yet vital, step of looking presentable for a job interview, dressbarn is teaming up with the non-profit organization, Dress for Success, to gather more than 60,000 articles of clothing, as part of its S.O.S. - Send One Suit - Weekend donation drive, March 1-4.

This year's clothing drive marks the 10th consecutive year dressbarn and Dress for Success have partnered to help women in need receive professional business attire.

Ceretto calls on Western New York's congressional delegation to stand up for religious freedom

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, today sent a letter to Western New York's congressional delegation urging them to support the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (H.R. 1179/S. 1467). Ceretto remarked that the measure would ensure that those who participate in the health care system retain the right to provide, purchase or enroll in health coverage that is consistent with their religious beliefs and moral convictions.
