Hard Rock Rising: Voting under way for Whiskey Reverb

Beginning today, fans of Western New York music can cast their votes for Whiskey Reverb in the Hard Rock Rising contest. The Niagara Falls band is in the running for a spot on the 2012 Hard Rock Calling stage in London.
John R. Oishei Foundation pledges $2 million to Niagara University

Niagara University announced today that it has received a $2 million grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation to support construction of the B. Thomas Golisano Center for Integrated Sciences. Construction of the science center is part of the university's $80 million capital campaign, "The Promise of Niagara ... The next 150 years."

Sixteen years ago, Grand Island Central School Superintendent Paul Fields appointed Bruce Benson and challenged him to "take Grand Island Middle School into the next century." With forethought and meticulous planning, Benson met the task head on and accomplished exactly that.

During his tenure as principal, six new classrooms were added to the existing building, and it was renamed the "Veronica E. Connor Middle School." More significantly, however, Benson was instrumental in Connor Middle School's rating as one of the top 10 middle schools in Western New York.

Paul Greinert carries on the tradition started by his dad, Ed Greinert, former town supervisor, with a lighted cross, bunnies, floral wreaths, Easter baskets and more spread over two acres (as shown above).

NFTA reaches agreement with Funtime for summer concerts at outer harbor

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority announced today that it has reached a licensing agreement with Funtime After Dark LLC to be the NFTA's waterfront concert promoter for the 2012 summer season.

Funtime plans on using the seven-acre site located on the outer harbor in the vicinity of the former Pier Restaurant to hold concerts from a variety of musical genres, including alternative, Canadian, southern and folk rock. Ticket prices will range from $30 pre-sale to $100 for a VIP ticket. Parking charges will range from $5 to $10.
