First Presbyterian Church's VBS ran from July 16 to 20. Several girls worked on making stuffed turtles as their mission project. These turtles were donated to Mount St. Mary's to be given to young children who are there for surgeries.

Sunday night's primetime coverage of the London Olympics on NBC drew an average of 31.3 million viewers, the ninth time in 10 nights that the average viewership for the London Olympics surpassed the Beijing Olympics. This marks the seventh night with at least 30 million viewers, equaling the combined total of the 2008 Beijing Olympics (five nights) and the 2004 Athens Olympics (two nights).

Panetta accepts Hochul invitation to tour Niagara Falls Air Base

On Monday, U.S. Representative Kathy Hochul, NY-26, announced that Department of Defense Secretary Leon Panetta will travel to Western New York to visit the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Panetta is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, Aug. 9, to tour the base and meet with base personnel as well as state and federal officials to discuss the air base and its future.
