Village of Lewiston working to acquire Frontier House

News broke Sunday that the Village of Lewiston created a petition seeking support for restoration of the historic Frontier House. Throughout this week, residents visiting the mayor's office in the Red Brick Municipal Building have been encouraged to sign the document. To date, more than 500 have obliged. In doing so, they asked one question: What's going on with the Frontier House?
Grand Island Garden Tour 2013 is July 6-7

Dr. Joshua Smith of Serene Gardens on Grand Island Boulevard is hoping the Grand Island Garden Tour will open some horizons when it debuts July 6 and 7, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"It's the first time Grand Island's been a part of the national garden tour," Smith said. "It's all free for everyone to join as well as free for everyone to visit the tour, visit the houses."

Dunkin' Donuts today announced that Buffalo franchisee Tim Cloe has signed agreements to build four new Dunkin' Donuts locations this year with Amherst-based Bevilacqua Development.

The new locations are slated to open in 2013 in Lockport, Hanover and Amherst (near UB North and on Transit Road) and will all feature the new modern Dunkin' Donuts look introduced this year.

RPCI: Researchers testing novel melanoma vaccine in clinical trial

A new clinical research study at Roswell Park Cancer Institute will assess the safety and efficacy of a novel immunotherapy approach to treating advanced melanoma. Developed at RPCI by Roswell Park researchers, the investigational vaccine shows promise for treating tumors in patients with stage III/stage IV melanoma, and perhaps as a future therapy for other solid-tumor cancers as well.

The Buffalo Sabres selected a league-high 11 prospects, including seven forwards, three defensemen and a goaltender, at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, which was held Sunday at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
