Grand Island is a fantastic place to live, and I feel fortunate to be here next to the mighty Niagara River. I am married to Michele (Floro) Kilmer, who's lived on the Island for 24 years, I have four children from a previous marriage, and Michele has two children. We are also proud owners of two dogs: Bravo and Phoebe.

The Food Policy Council of Buffalo and Erie County (Council) is recruiting new board members. Erie County residents who are interested can apply online. New members will be selected for terms beginning July 1, 2023, and Jan. 1, 2024.

With about two weeks left in the annual campaign, Appeal 2023 is just over $813,000 away from reaching its $9.5 million goal by June 30. The annual Appeal in support of Catholic Charities and the "Fund for the Faith" is currently at $8,686,534, or more than 91% raised.

One of those objects is an edible gummy, containing enough THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis) to cause intoxication, seizures, trouble breathing, and changes to heart rate and blood pressure. She puts it in her mouth, swallows, and when the poisoning effects set in - sometimes hours later - her parents panic.

Jody and Tom Fogarty, who were chosen as Relay For Life's honorary survivors in 2023, both are cancer free after recent cancer diagnoses: Tom with bladder cancer in 2018 and Jody with breast cancer in 2021. They said one of their goals in telling their story is to encourage others to make sure to have regular cancer screenings.

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. on Friday announced the christening of the "Big Kahuna," a new tiki tour boat docked at Canalside. The newly built, multi-hulled boat is the latest to be added to the fleet of Buffalo Boat Tours. It will carry passengers on daily scenic Buffalo waterfront trips.
