November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and a time to raise awareness about the specialized, expert care Niagara Hospice provides in Niagara County. The nonprofit organization has provided hospice care to over 30,000 individuals and their families since 1988. In recognizing the month, the nonprofit organization is happy to announce plans for its longest-running fundraiser, "Cocktails & Cash."

Heading into Halloween weekend, Maid of the Mist will swap out its iconic blue ponchos for orange Halloween ponchos, continuing a tradition that began years ago. The unique pumpkin ponchos will be available beginning Friday, Oct. 31, and will be handed out while supplies last. Ponchos are included with the purchase of a ticket.

Empire State Development (ESD) announced MAHLE, a leading international development partner and supplier to the automotive industry providing components to major automotive manufacturers across North America, will undergo a $6.8 million expansion at its Niagara County facility. The project, located in Lockport, will support at least 11 new jobs and retain 226 jobs in the state-of-the-art manufacturing space.

The option to override the 2% tax cap was formally approved by a 4-1 vote at the Town of Niagara's regular Town Board business meeting on Tuesday. Councilman Charles Teixeira was the lone dissenting vote against authorizing Supervisor Sylvia Virtuoso and the board to increase taxes by more than 2%.
