On the docket at Tuesday's Town Board meeting were four properties that will be evaluated at public hearings April 21, with suggested remedies including repair, vacate and/or demolish.

Catholic Charities: Appeal now over halfway to goal; HOPE Day raises new record of $528,105

HOPE Day, the annual 24-hour match challenge day of giving, raised a total of $528,105 in support of Appeal 2026 on March 18 to benefit Catholic Charities of Buffalo and the "Fund for the Faith," pushing the annual campaign past the halfway mark toward its overall $8 million goal. The total surpasses last year's record of $516,124.

The Niagara County Department of Social Services (DSS) is reminding families, even those without earned income, to file a New York state income tax return so they can take full advantage of the Empire State Child Credit. New this year (for tax year 2025), households with the lowest income, or even no income, can receive the maximum for this credit.
NYSDOT update on Cayuga Drive construction

On Friday, the New York State Department of Transportation announced, "Cayuga Drive will be closed to through traffic, and the detour will be in effect on weekends, as well as weekdays, for the remainder of construction. However, there will be pedestrian access under the bridge on the west side of the road."

Mark Hagar Jr., 50, has lost 60 pounds so far, as his chemotherapy treatments continue at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute. There is no cure for pancreatic cancer and the treatment he's receiving is for "maintenance," Hagar explained from his home on Friday.

Niagara County Legislator Shawn Foti reminds residents that the county has begun accepting reservations for picnic shelters in county parks for this summer. The county operates five parks: Krull, Oppenheim, Royalton Ravine, West Canal Marina and Burmaster at Bond Lake. Boaters can also reserve boat slips at West Canal Marina.

Structure fire in Wheatfield

On March 5, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communication center received a 911 call reporting a fire inside of a garage at 2406 Niagara Road. All residents were able to safely evacuate the garage and residence prior to patrol's arrival. Personnel and equipment from multiple fire companies arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire.
