The Niagara County Department of Public Works (DPW) today announced that culvert work will begin next Wednesday, Aug. 27, on Upper Mountain Road between Sunset Drive and the railroad overpass. This is the next phase in the Upper Mountain Road rehab project that began in July.

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has been awarded $28.4 million through New York's Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program IV. The Niagara County Office for the Aging will be distributing farmers market coupon booklets this weekend at the farmers markets in Lockport and North Tonawanda. The Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, provided by the state Department of Agriculture and Markets, provides these coupons to all who meet age and income requirements to buy fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables at participating farmers' markets throughout New York.

The fourth Frank J. Gaffney Purple Heart recognition ceremony saw over a hundred spectators on hand outside the Niagara County Courthouse on Sunday. The American Legion Band of the Tonawandas performed, and 89 new names were added to the memorial monument in Lockport. There are now 557 named honorees carved in stone around the flagpoles next to the courthouse.

Funding for the new program year begins Oct. 1, and runs through Sept. 30, 2026.
