Catholic Health is now offering bloodwork scheduling by appointment at all 21 of its laboratory collection sites in Erie and Niagara counties. It said, "Making an appointment is quick and easy using the CH MyChart online patient portal. The portal is free and you can sign up from any computer, tablet or mobile device."
Niagara County History Center to present program on immigrants in history & today

Heart, Love & Soul hosting 17th annual recognition dinner

Niagara Falls Police investigating shooting outside 7-Eleven

At approximately 5:15 a.m. Saturday, Niagara Falls Police Department officers responded to 15th Street and Pine Avenue for a report of a man shot. Upon arrival at 1504 Pine Ave., officers located a 28-year-old male suffering from numerous serious gunshot wounds, laying on the ground outside a 7-Eleven.
NCCC to host information nights

Niagara County Community College will host a series of division specific informational nights this month to introduce prospective students to the programs and services available at the college. The events will consist of program presentations, classroom visits and a campus tour. Students will be able to check the status of their application, or apply if they have not yet done so.

In the Niagara Falls Power Vista Visitors Center, robots maneuvered around obstacles, moved up and down ramps, threw balls through miniature basketball hoops, and scooped up orange disks that they then pushed across a grid. The demonstrations were part of the culminating event at Niagara University's Robotics Camp, which took place June 27-30.

New York state record for smallmouth bass broken by 8.6-pound catch on Cayuga Lake

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos recently announced a new state record for smallmouth bass was set June 15, opening day for bass harvest season. Thomas Russell Jr. of Albion reeled in an 8-pound, 6-ounce smallmouth bass from Cayuga Lake, Seneca County. Russell's bass surpassed the previous record by two ounces, a tie between fish caught on Lake Erie in 1995, and in the St. Lawrence River in 2016.

Ortt announces revolving loan fund for Niagara County

Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt on Monday announced that, with the help of federal representatives, Niagara County has been awarded the Revolving Loan Fund of $3.9 million. These monies will help fund the clean-up process of brownfield projects, ranging from cleaning buildings with asbestos or lead contamination, to assessing and cleaning abandoned properties.

Falls crews working to fix water main break

On Sunday morning, the Office of City of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino announced a 20-inch water main break at James Avenue and Hyde Park Boulevard. The Niagara Falls Water Board reported lower water pressure in the DeVeaux area due to the size of the break. Crews were on site for repair. A picture of the split in water main is shown above.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office will be on site inspecting car seats to help ensure child safety. There will be a variety of food, including hot dogs, baked goods and ice cream available for sale. The Niagara County SPCA also will have meet-and-greet pet adoptions.
