Muzzleloader course to be given in Wheatfield

Hunting season is almost here, and the Firearms Permit Review Board of Wheatfield will hold its annual muzzleloader course from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the Community Center located behind the Wheatfield Town Hall.

As Bell sat behind his new desk, Sam the cat regally accepted a scratch behind the ears and spread out bonelessly claiming more territory. Sam, after all, came to the SPCA first. Bell just started his new job as executive director on Oct. 1.

William F. Farnham Sr., of the Tuscarora Nation, passed away on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. He was a member of the Beaver Clan, born in Buffalo on Aug. 16, 1933, the son of the late Frank and Carrie (Green) Farnham.

The Buffalo Museum of Science has partnered with the Buffalo Bills, Sabres, Bisons, Bandits and New Era Cap to create an interactive exhibit that investigates the science behind Buffalo's favorite sports.

"The Science of Sports" opens Sept. 29 and runs through Jan. 6, 2013.

Aside from being competitive, sports are a complex equation of physics, math and biology. From the physical impact of collisions to the technology behind how hockey ice is created, science plays an integral role in every highlight reel and play-by-play.

On Thursday, Assemblyman John D. Ceretto, R-I- Lewiston, called the naming of former Court of Appeals Chief Judge Judith Kaye as the third arbiter in the dispute between the Seneca Nation of Indians and the state of New York "significant progress." The arbitration process will be settled by three arbiters, one named by the Senecas, one named by the state of New York, and the third, Kaye, agreed upon by both arbiters.

Fifty years ago, Niagara County Community College was founded and, a year later, the college opened its doors to 343 students in downtown Niagara Falls. On Sept. 4, NCCC opened doors to the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, just four blocks from the original site of NCCC.
