Old Fort Niagara commemorates Civil War sesquicentennial

Union soldiers will man the ramparts of Old Fort Niagara during Civil War Weekend, May 14-15. The event will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War in April 1861. Featured will be a Civil War Encampment, rifled musket demonstrations and special tours of the fort that focus on its role from 1861-65.

After almost one year of evidence and one year following closing submissions on an appeal filed by the residents in the Village of Queenston challenging a Niagara Escarpment Commission decision that granted a development permit to construct a two-story building on the private dock in Queenston, the minister of natural resources has rendered a decision. The minister found the NEC's decision to grant the development permit was incorrect.

Andrew Cuomo to discuss the appointment of a Niagara County resident to the New York Power Authority's board of trustees in order to fill one of its vacancies. The meeting was scheduled after Ceretto personally reached out to Cuomo earlier this year to express his concerns about the board's exclusion of local representatives.
