Friday night, with the eyes of the world watching, daredevil Nik Wallenda successfully walked a high wire across Niagara Falls. Wallenda began his trek from Niagara Falls, N.Y., at about 10:15 p.m., and finished about 10:45 p.m. in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Local students from LaSalle Preparatory School in Niagara Falls, St. Peter's R.C. School in Lewiston, and the Community Charter School and Elmwood Village Charter School in Buffalo are joining daredevil Nik Wallenda and his team Thursday, June 14, at 10:30 a.m. for a unique, behind the scenes look at the science behind his historic walk across Niagara Falls. The event is taking place at the walk site, Terrapin Point on Goat Island, and also includes a student Q-and-A opportunity with Wallenda and representatives from the companies that built and set up the walk's rigging.

Lewiston Peace Garden lives up to its name

The Lewiston Peace Garden, located at 476 Center St., has definitely evolved over the years. Eva Nicklas from the Lewiston Council on the Arts explained how it began as a "funky gravel parking lot" and, after years of hard work, is now recognized as an International Peace Garden by the International Peace Garden Foundation.

"It's a beautiful green space that all of Lewiston is proud of," Nicklas said.

The Peace Garden contains a fountain, a stage, different kinds of flowering plants, and memory bricks throughout.

The garden has been host to various events over the years, including belly dancing, poetry readings, chainsaw artists, and fundraising events. But this summer will be different.
