Throughout this week, Lewiston laborers have been out along Center Street clearing massive snow piles caused by January's snowstorms. In working to clear the roads and sidewalks, snow had accumulated to heights almost equaling the neighboring buildings.

Artpark & Company announced "Sierra Ferrell: Heavy Petal Tour" at Artpark's Mainstage Theater in Lewiston at 7 p.m. Sept. 2. Ferrell just announced her 2026 Heavy Petal tour, which includes more than 40 dates across the U.S. and Europe throughout this summer and fall.

From Jan. 25-30, students and faculty at St. Peter R.C. School in Lewiston celebrated Catholic Schools Week with special events and a focus on how to "live like a saint," as they explored ways to positively contribute to their families, school and the community.

On Saturday, Feb. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, Dr. Glenda R. Rose and Dr. Thomas G. Barba of Rose Chiropractic, P.C., in Lewiston, will be sponsoring the 36th annual "Doctors with a Heart Day" for their patients. Nonperishable food items will be collected to benefit the Niagara Community Action Program (NiaCAP) food pantry in exchange for chiropractic services.

The other day, I was asked about the lack of visiting anglers this winter. I had to assure the person it had nothing to do with lack of promotion or any issues with the number of fish waiting to be caught, but it was just due to the clarity (or lack thereof) of the water itself.

SUNY Niagara's leadership has approved a revised institutional mission, a new vision statement and five-year strategic plan to support it. The plan, named "Future Forward 2026-2030," goes into effect this month following its unanimous approval at the college's board of trustees meeting in November.

Jastrzemski announced the planned closures and schedule changes of the county's three Department of Motor Vehicles offices in February as the New York State DMV begins a large-scale system upgrade next month to modernize its technology platforms and service delivery. The upgrades impact every DMV across the state.

Dr. Scott F. McKay, of the Village of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Niagara Falls on May 22, 1946, the son of the late Gordon and Evelyn (Howard) McKay.

The Niagara County Department of Health has received confirmation of two positive rabies cases involving raccoons in the towns of Cambria and Hartland. Samples were submitted to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center on Jan. 14, and positive results were confirmed Jan. 15.
