NFARS: Reserve airmen help deliver donated firetruck to community in need

Air transportation specialists, or port dawgs, of the 30th Aerial Port Squadron and loadmasters of the 301st Airlift Squadron loaded a firetruck and a portable water reserve tank onto a C-17 Globemaster III at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station on Dec. 9, to be donated to La Ciénaga, Dominican Republic.

Niagara University announces construction of solar array on campus

Niagara University announced it has partnered with Montante Solar to develop and maintain a solar array on its Lewiston campus. The array, which is expected to generate four megawatts at peak solar capacity, is targeted to be operational in October 2023 - and represents another major step forward in the university's commitment to environmental stewardship.

Center Street blaze: Business owners still in shock after last week's fire

An early morning fire on Nov. 30 ravaged 744, 746 and 748 Center St., the site of The Vintage Barber, Soully Created and Sue's Frame of Mind. In battling the blaze, first responders from Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 and members from a half-dozen supporting companies had to break glass, pull off siding, cut into the roof and pump in copious amounts of water.
DOT to keep Center Street speed limit at 30 mph

The New York State Department of Transportation has denied the Village of Lewiston's request to lower the speed limit on Center Street from 30 mph to 25 mph.

History Center receives Conservation Grant

Niagara Falls firefighters deliver toys for Christmas giving tree to Niagara County Legislature

Niagara Falls firefighters delivered bags of toys to the Niagara County Courthouse rotunda right before the meeting of the County Legislature on Tuesday night. This was in support of the Christmas giving tree, where collections support Casey House Shelter, Twin Cities Outreach and the Salvation Army.

Niagara County clerk: Federal government delaying enforcement of REAL ID requirements for 2 more years

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Tuesday said the federal Department of Homeland Security is delaying enforcement of REAL ID requirements by 24 months, from May 3, 2023, to May 7, 2025. At that time, one will need a REAL ID to board any domestic flights, enter a military base and access certain federal facilities.

Village of Lewiston trustees seek uniformity with 'sandwich boards'

For several weeks, Village of Lewiston trustees have been debating what to do with "sandwich boards" promoting Lewiston businesses. They relaxed municipal laws pertaining to A-frame posts at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, and have continued to permit the markers - particularly noting the need to direct people to slightly off-Center Street retailers Sgt. Peppers Hot Sauces and Brewed and Bottled Craft Beer Shop.

This interactive exhibition, which explores the human experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, opened at the Castellani Art Museum (CAM) of Niagara University over the weekend. Santa overcomes weather to arrive in Lewiston

Despite high winds and wet, rainy conditions, Santa Claus did arrive safely in Lewiston on Saturday, to continue participating in Christmas Walk weekend events. Jolly Old St. Nicholas was scheduled to appear from inside his float in the International Peace Garden but, as the weather wasn't cooperative, opted to greet children and families from inside Deal Realty (451 Center St.)

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced its annual employee awards, which recognize outstanding work on behalf of the New York state park and historic site system. The awards included the L.L. Huttleston Executive Award, the agency's highest honor, given to a senior manager; the first Waletzky Award for Environmental Stewardship; and the agency's top peer recognition, the Maple Leaf Award.
