Morinello announces 'critical' library funding in Erie, Niagara counties

The musical icon, Lilith Fair creator and Sarah McLachlan School of Music founder was, per usual, vocally dynamic, making for a memorable occasion. As she did in 2014, McLachlan shared stories, explained song origins and thanked fans for supporting her now 31-year career.

Fearing thunderstorms would postpone (or worse, cancel) Tuesday's outdoor concert with Chris Isaak, Artpark & Company officials moved the show into the Mainstage Theater. It was a smart move, as the colors of the concert hall matched perfectly with the singer's colorful production - not to mention his outfit and the duds of his traveling troubadours.

Town of Lewiston Supervisor Steve Broderick was given a citation from the Sanborn Area Historical Society at the Sanborn-Lewiston Farm Museum Festival for providing the society help financing a feasibility study; purchasing the farm in 2002; continuing to support it over the years, including this year; completing the museum's parking lot and connecting the venue to the town sewers, allowing the Sanborn-Lewiston Farm Museum to be open all year for the first time.
Golf tournament nets $29K for hospital foundation

The board of associates of Mount St. Mary's Hospital presented a check in the amount of $29,000 to the Mount St. Mary's Hospital Foundation from the proceeds from its 39th annual Louis J. Fernandez Golf Classic. The event took place Monday at the Niagara Frontier Golf Club and included more than 124 golfers.

The New York State Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at the Porter Town Hall, located at 3265 Creek Road, Youngstown. The 20th annual Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Cruise and Clambake, a popular fundraising event held for Niagara Hospice, was held Friday, July 12, at the Porter on the Lake. The high water levels of Lake Ontario required many last-minute changes to be made, but organizers said the event was still an exceptional celebration.

The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston announced the awarding of scholarships to Nicholas Passanese, Suhana Monsalve, Domenic Barile and Miguel Bautista. Lewiston Kiwanis awarded Passanese a $2,000 scholarship, while scholarships of $1,000 each were presented to Monsalve and Barile.
Niagara County: Parents, caregivers encouraged to be familiar with immunization requirements

In the U.S., vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks are occurring in schools, churches, religious groups and other group settings with low immunization rates. New York state has experienced increased numbers of measles outbreaks in areas with low immunization rates of children. This was due to religious exemptions that resulted in unvaccinated children attending schools where disease was spread to other unvaccinated children, some of whom cannot receive vaccines due to medical conditions.
