NYS: $100 million to enhance pavement resiliency in every corner of state

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $100 million to enhance the resiliency of state highways in 70 locations across New York impacted by extreme weather. With project support from the Infrastructure and Jobs Act, a total of 551 lane miles of state highways in every region of the state will be repaved.
Repeat arsonist pleads guilty

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced previously convicted arsonist Joseph Gains, age 61, of Niagara Falls, has plead guilty to another arson charge and will serve the next five to 10 years in prison.

New York Power Authority fishing facilities, including the fishing pier, shoreline stairway and lower parking area at the base of the New York Power Authority's Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant, will close for the season at dusk Sunday, Dec. 1. The fishing pier near the Upper Mountain Fire Co., at the Lewiston Reservoir, at the water intakes along the upper Niagara River, will also close for the season.

Come Jan. 1, water fees in the Village of Lewiston will increase. The board acted Monday to approve local laws raising the water improvements surcharge from $10 to $15 per billing cycle, and to up the water rate from $4.03 to $4.25 per 100 cubic feet of usage.

Ribbon cut on new Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy at SUNY Niagara

The new Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy (NCLEA) is officially open following a ribbon-cutting Tuesday at the new facility located on the campus of SUNY Niagara. The building is a partnership between the county, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office and SUNY Niagara, with funding for the $8.3 million project coming from both the county and state, along with a contribution from the City of Niagara Falls.
