The Niagara SPCA recently underwent an external audit completed by Barbara Carr, former CEO of the SPCA Serving Erie County and currently a senior shelter consultant. The entire report is posted on the Niagara SPCA website (www.niagaraspca.org). Below is a summary of some of her recommendations.

The Lewiston-Porter Lancers boys basketball team has played tough non-league competition all season. Wednesday night, the team faced another challenge in Buffalo's Middle Early College Kats.
Despite a physical and highly contested battle, the Lancers fell versus New York's No. 4 team in Class C, 72-69.

New York State Assemblyman Angelo Morinello on Wednesday said he supports the Village of Lewiston's goal to lower the speed limit on Center Street to make the roadway more walkable. He contacted Niagara Frontier Publications to clear the air, in light of reports he received from Tuesday's Board of Trustees meeting.

Get ready to lose those winter blues! The Lewiston Council on the Arts' "Toast & Jam" begins in a new location, Tin Pan Alley, 775 Cayuga St., at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10. Now in its 21st year, this jazz-jamming, blues-rocking, poetry-reading event returns by popular demand and continues every Monday through March 16.

Over the weekend, the seventh annual Greater Niagara Fishing and Outdoor Expo invaded downtown Niagara Falls. The event was held at the Conference and Event Center with a focus on "Teaching Fishing" to the legions of anglers that can be found in New York, Southern Ontario and other nearby states.

Two Lewiston businesses originally slated to become part of the renovated Fourth and Center streets complex are moving. The owners of Brewed and Bottled Craft Beer Shop and Sgt. Peppers Hot Sauces said the corner's concept just wasn't the right fit for them. As such, they're headed to 442-444 Center, a property developed by attorney and Town of Lewiston Councilman Alfonso Marra Bax.

Traveling on the road to play a basketball game in a hostile environment is no easy task. The Lewiston-Porter Lancers felt the affects of playing in Niagara-Wheatfield's gym Tuesday night, but as good teams do, the Lancers were able to overcome an early stumble.
Lew-Port defeated the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons, 80-51, Tuesday, in a game that was close for the first 16 to 17 minutes.
