Charles Teixeira, a Town of Niagara Councilman for 19 years, announced Tuesday he is not running for reelection this fall.

At the regular Town Board meeting, Teixeira read the following into the record:

“Ladies and gentlemen of the town, I come before you with a heart full of gratitude and humility. For the past 19 years, I have had the honor and privilege to serve as your Town of Niagara councilman. Over the years, I have tried my best to listen to the concerns of all the residents and fellow business owners, and I have strived to make the best decisions for all those I represent. It has been a journey filled with challenges, triumphs and invaluable lessons that I will carry with me the rest of my life. I have met some truly wonderful people, whose kindness and dedication have inspired me and shown me the true meaning of community – and for that I am forever grateful.

“That being said, I’ve also encountered my share of adversity, having come face to face with people whose intentions were far from honorable. Yet, even in those moments, I have found strength in my faith and in the belief that God has a plan for my life. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.’

“And now, after much prayer and reflection, I have come to the decision that I will not be seeking reelection. I will be finishing out my term until the end of the year.

“While this chapter of my life is ending, I am confident that God is leading me towards new opportunities to contribute and serve him. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 states, ‘To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.’

“I want to thank each one of you for putting your trust and support in me. Serving on the Town Board has been one of the greatest honors in my life, and I will cherish the memories and relationships I have built.

“I will continue to pray for the town’s future, and may God bless each and every one of you.”

Supervisor Sylvia Virtuoso said Teixeira always made his decisions from the heart.

“We wish you the best,” she said.
