The Village of Lewiston Department of Public Works has added tasks to its Water Street workload.

Earlier this week, laborers removed the wooden plank buffers along North Fourth Street’s grass/curbline at the edge of The Silo Restaurant’s parking area. Superintendent Anthony Mang said this would enable a new catch basin system, while also widening the street a bit.

In addition, the DPW is removing water services from a 4-inch line and connecting them to a 6-inch line. This will provide greater efficiency, while also preparing the roadway to be resurfaced next year.

These efforts are complementing a larger, $43,000 renovation project underway at the waterfront.

A new metal fence is in the process of being installed in the park – courtesy of Fox Fence – and a new staircase leading down to the dock is almost complete. The fish-cleaning station also is getting a refresh, with the addition of a new grinder. The site is expected to receive new picnic tables and swings, too.

In a social media post, the Lewiston Beautification Committee wrote, “This initiative has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Fran and Marie Williams, the Lewiston Garden Club, our dedicated volunteers, and the entire community. The donations to Lewiston Beautification from our local businesses and community members are being reinvested directly into enhancing our beautiful village.”
