The 2024 edition of “Holiday Happenings,” held Oct. 19 at the Golden Age Center at the Nike Base, featured crafts, lunch, a basket raffle and a bake sale.
Jen Menter, recreation supervisor for the Golden Age Center, said, “We have a really nice turnout here today for this holiday event to support the Golden Age Club and senior services. We’re really lucky to have the support of our seniors and our members here in our community. We have a great turnout of 16 members, who have made wonderful crafts and items here to kick off our holiday season and to get everyone in the spirit of the holidays. We have a great bake sale, a great lunch sale, a 50/50 raffle, a great basket raffle of 138 baskets, gift cards and gift certificates from wonderful people who have supported us in our cause. We have a great 50/50 raffle, Christmas tree lottery raffle, as well. I think everybody is having a really fantastic time here. And you can’t beat the weather.”
Menter said the event is about building community. “It’s a chance for all of us to get together and see one another, to catch up. We do these events to keep our costs low, to be able to do the great activities and events that people look forward to, and for everyone to get the chance to participate. We listen to the feedback and suggestions of what people want to see, what people want to participate in and, so, we can have these great events, such as entertainment, different programs and different events that people want to see. So, this is how we’re able to do all these great things."
