Primary construction of the new Academy Park pavilion began last week – and at the rate workers are moving, it’s expected the shelter could be completed in just a few more weeks.
“The pavilion went up fast and it looks great. I can’t wait until it is completed – it’s a great addition to Academy Park!” Mayor Anne Welch said.
Kiwanians used the structure’s concrete base at the recent Niagara County Peach Festival and will incorporate the pavilion into future events. The structure also will be made available to the Lewiston Artisan Farmers Market, Memorial Day parade luncheon, Wine Festival and for activities taking place on the neighboring Alphonso I. DiMino Memorial Band Shell.
Funding for the 80-feet-by-40-feet pavilion primarily came from the Town of Lewiston, by means of $190,000 in Greenway money; and from $120,000 in private donations.
