First District Niagara County Legislator Irene Myers presented Old Fort Niagara Executive Director Robert Emerson with a check for $24,939.26 to assist with preservation and education projects at the historic site. The support comes from the Niagara County Legislature’s newly created Cultural Endowment Fund, which was created to support numerous cultural organizations. A total of 10 organizations received funding through the program.
“We are deeply grateful to the Niagara County Legislature for supporting cultural organizations across the county,” Emerson said. “This funding will allow us to enhance historic preservation and public programming at the site. Both of these elements are so important in enriching the lives of area residents and attracting tourism dollars to Niagara County.”
Last year, the fort welcomed over 84,000 visitors to the historic site, including 12,000 school students who learned about the early history of this region.
