Relay For Life’s “Carnival of Hope” is scheduled for Sunday at Town Commons. It will feature entertainment, a basket raffle, a luminaria ceremony to honor cancer survivors and to remember those no longer with us, as well as much more.
Entertainment schedule
The survivor tent opens at 1 p.m. It will remain open until 6 p.m. Food will be served, following the survivor recognition ceremony. As usual, cancer survivors will be served a free meal.
√ 1-2:30 p.m., Eric Spahr Band will perform
√ 2:30-3 p.m., survivor recognition ceremony
√ 3-4 p.m., a DJ will present music
√ 4-5:30 p.m., Rusty Nickel will perform
√ 5:30-6 p.m., a DJ will present music
√ 6-8 p.m., “The Price is Right,” featuring Hayden Garey as the host, and sponsored by WaveLengths Hair Design; a s’mores station will be going on at the same time
√ 8-9 p.m., Electra & Odin Fire performers
The winning basket raffle tickets will be pulled at 5:45 p.m.
The luminaria ceremony is scheduled for 9 p.m. Luminaria will be for sale at the Carnival of Hope. Decorate your own or have Relay For Life volunteers decorate one for you. If you would prefer to buy your luminaria in advance, they can be ordered online at www.Relayforlife.org/GrandIslandNY.
There will be a signed Josh Allen jersey raffle, with tickets available at Mallwitz’s Island Lanes. The cost is $5 per ticket or three tickets for $10.
Upcoming Relay For Life events
•June 16: Fathers’ Day Lawnmower Races: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3957 West River Road. This will feature the Mary Dunbar-Daluisio Memorial Lawnmower and RC Car Race, the Kevin Doring Memorial 5K walk/run and the car/bike/truck show. There will also be a kids’ mower race, with all mowers provided. All races start at noon. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages will be available for purchase.
•July 20: Friends of Lynnette Slow Roll for Relay. This bicycling event will occur on Grand Island’s Nike Base. Registration on the day of the event will be held beginning at 8:15 a.m., with a start time of 9 a.m. The slow roll is held in memory of Lynnette Grisanti (Dec. 8, 1946 – July 18, 1993). The event will also feature a basket raffle with a preview night being held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 19. Anyone wishing to preregister can do so by July 1.
